The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a crash in Franklin County that killed three teenagers Monday afternoon.
Four teens were driving along Highway 65 when the car went off the road, hit a tree and caught fire, FHP spokesperson Patricia Jefferson-Shaw said. An 18-year-old boy, a 17-year-old girl and a 16-year-old girl died in the crash, and a 17-year-old girl was injured who Shaw said is in “critical condition.”
“Witness were able to remove the front right passenger before the vehicle became fully engulfed,” an FHP news release said. “The surviving passenger was airlifted to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital.”
The driver and other two passengers were still in the car and pronounced dead on scene.
It is unknown why they drove off the road, but Shaw said FHP’s traffic homicide team is on scene investigating. Both lanes of the Highway 65 near Bloody Bluff Road are shut down while first responders clear the scene and the investigation continues.
