A man was seriously injured Monday afternoon in a suspected home invasion-turned-shooting on University Boulevard North, near Jacksonville University, according to Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office investigators.

In a news briefing, JSO Sgt. Christopher Smith said police responded to a report of a person shot at approximately 4 p.m. When officers arrived, they found a man in his late teens with a gunshot wound to the shoulder. The sheriff’s office said he had life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

After an initial investigation, detectives determined that the shooting began when a homeowner reportedly walked in to find an intruder in his home and confronted him. They did not specify who the shooter was.

Sgt. Smith said all involved parties were detained and are cooperating with the investigation.
