TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The Tallahassee-Leon County Planning Department is hosting a public open house Wednesday to lay out a long-term strategy for managing growth in the capital city and throughout the county.
This is the final open house in a series of public meetings on the Tallahassee-Leon County Comprehensive Plan updates.
The plan outlines goals in key areas like affordable housing, economic development, transportation, land use and environmental sustainability. Planning officials say it will help shape decisions for the next 25 years.
“The things we are trying to accomplish with this comp plan update is ensuring that as we grow, between now and 2050, we do so in a responsible manner that promotes infill development,” said Mike Alfano, director of the Tallahassee-Leon County Planning Department.
Alfano said residents will be able to review maps, policies, ask questions, and give feedback at the meeting.

“Folks will be able to see information as it relates to protecting and preserving our natural environment, creating distinct urban and rural places, and ensuring our neighborhoods are healthy and all of our places are vibrant,” the director said.
During earlier meetings in the series, he said residents voiced concerns specific to their areas. In Fort Braden, feedback focused on how rural communities would be impacted. In Lake Jackson, residents weighed in on proposed expansions to the Urban Services Area.
City officials have already submitted their version of the plan to the state for review. The county is taking additional time.
While this is the last open house meeting in the series, residents will still have the chance to weigh in on the plan during public comment at county commission meetings.
For those interested in attending, the Tallahassee-Leon County Planning Department’s public open house will take place Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at the Bradfordville Community Center.
