Atlanta rapper Offset was shot Monday night in Florida. His shooting comes nearly four years after Takeoff, his partner in the Grammy-nominated group Migos, was shot and killed.
Offset, whose real name is Kiari Kendrell Cephus, was reportedly shot near the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida.
A representative told TMZ that Offset is “fine” and “is currently at the hospital receiving medical care.” The representative added, “He is stable and being closely monitored.”
Today, news broke that rapper Tione Jayden “Lil Tjay” Merritt was arrested in connection with the shooting. Offset was reportedly involved in a fight with Lil Tjay but his representative denies he was the shooter.
“We are issuing this release in regards to false rumors that Lil Tjay was involved in a shooting … which [resulted] in non-life-threatening injuries to Offset, formerly a member of Migos,” Tjay’s attorney, Dawn M Florio, said in a statement on Instagram.
The Offset shooting comes just a week after news broke about the alleged assault of another Atlanta rapper, Gucci Mane, in Texas. Rapper Pooh Shiesty, whose legal name is Lontrell Williams Jr., is facing robbery and kidnapping charges after police allege that he and others executed a “coordinated armed takeover” Jan. 10.
According to the Associated Press, federal prosecutors last Thursday accused rapper Pooh Shiesty and eight others of robbing three men at gunpoint and kidnapping them in Texas following a contract dispute involving Gucci Mane’s record label.
Offset shares three children with rapper Cardi B. She has not yet released a statement following the shooting.
