Philadelphia 76ers vs Orlando Magic Preview

The Philadelphia 76ers started the season very well, securing victories in both games they have played so far. In their season opener, they defeated their hated rivals, the Boston Celtics, on the road 117-116, and then followed it up with a home win over the Charlotte Hornets, 125-121. Interestingly, both victories came despite poor performances from Joel Embiid, while Tyrese Maxey has emerged as the team’s main player.

Joel Embiid’s playing time is limited to 20 minutes, and the Philadelphia 76ers believe this is the right approach to ensure their center can play significantly more games than last season. However, in the opening games, Joel Embiid has not made the same impact as before. His performance against the Boston Celtics was particularly weak, scoring only 4 points on 1/9 shooting, and during his time on the floor, the 76ers were outscored by 16 points. Still, the crucial period came when Joel Embiid was off the court in the final quarter, allowing the 76ers to stage a comeback and secure the win. Tyrese Maxey led the team in both victories, scoring 40 and 28 points. The most impressive performance came from rookie VJ Edgecombe, the third overall pick in last year’s NBA draft, who scored 34 points against the Celtics. This was the best debut scoring performance since Wilt Chamberlain, who had 43 points in his first NBA game in 1959. Edgecombe also excelled in the preseason, but such a high-scoring debut with excellent shooting (13/26 from the field) exceeded expectations in Philadelphia. Joel Embiid played much better in the second game against the Charlotte Hornets, scoring 20 points, but the 76ers still won thanks to strong play while their star was on the bench. Quentin Grimes emerged as a hero by hitting a crucial three-pointer with 14 seconds left.

The Orlando Magic entered the new season with high ambitions, but their results so far have not met the expectations of the team’s management or fans. After three games, the Orlando Magic have only one win, which came in the season opener against the Miami Heat at home (125-121). They followed that with two home losses, against the Atlanta Hawks (111-107) and the Chicago Bulls (110-98).

Old offensive issues are reappearing for the Orlando Magic. The Magic currently have the second-worst offense in the league and the lowest three-point shooting percentage. The addition of Desmond Bane this summer was expected to help, but he has delivered only a modest impact in his first three games. Franz Wagner has played two excellent games, though he was slightly less effective against the Chicago Bulls. Paolo Banchero continues to take a high number of low-percentage shots, leading to inefficient play. The Magic’s offense remains static and overly reliant on isolation plays, with no clear hierarchy in shot distribution among primary players. Poor ball movement and hesitation in offensive flow have led to very low shooting percentages, especially in key moments. Against the Bulls, the Orlando Magic was catastrophic from three-point range (3/24) and only slightly better in overall field-goal shooting (39%). Against the Atlanta Hawks, the Magic led by 12 in the fourth quarter but allowed a 15-0 run that turned the game in Atlanta Hawks’ favor. In that decisive quarter, the Magic shot 0/7 from three and 7/21 overall, which largely explains the loss. The concern is that these issues are systemic, and the Magic will likely continue to struggle offensively as the season progresses.

Philadelphia 76ers vs Orlando Magic Best Betting Tip and Prediction

Orlando Magic is a team that scores the fourth fewest points per game, and their offense ranks as the second worst in the league, which clearly highlights the team’s problems. Shot selection and ball movement in Orlando Magic’ game are at a very low level, so it’s no surprise that they are the weakest three-point shooting team in the NBA. The Philadelphia 76ers also face challenges with injuries, meaning they are far from optimal offensive form. For these reasons, we expect this game to produce fewer points than the set total.
