SeaWorld Orlando is updating its “Expedition Odyssey” attraction less than a year after it opened.The company says they will transform the indoor flying theater ride into “Expedition Odyssey Fire and Ice,” where guests will take on the role of Arctic researchers. “They will take to the skies to really understand the dynamic forces of geothermal fire and polar ice and how those things end up shaping the Arctic, in a really, really fun way,” said Kevin Boutte, vice president of attractions design. The updated ride will feature new animals and environments, including volcanoes, as part of its revamped film. SeaWorld hopes the changes will educate guests about world conservation. “I think that’s the power of theme parks, the power of what we do. We can transport people to these amazing adventures, and they can learn so much more about the world,” Boutte said. The team behind the project said the updates aim to showcase the full dynamic motion of the ride system. “We weren’t taking advantage of the full dynamic, projection capabilities and sound. So we start thinking, what can we do with this? And bringing in some color and contrast. And we had just seen this video of a volcano in Iceland that has never been shown, which you’ll see for the first time here,” said Justin Newton, senior vice president of project delivery. The team noted that such projects typically take about a year to complete, but they hope to finish the updates in roughly 40 days.”It’ll be not just a fun, eye-popping journey, but I think it’s an emotional experience,” Newton said.SeaWorld Orlando said this project will wrap up quickly in roughly 40 days. Officials hope guests will get to experience Expedition Odyssey Fire and Ice this spring.
