JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – For the first time in her career, defender Millie Urquhart has been named the ASUN’s Defensive Player of the Week.

The league announced Monday that the junior from Scotland was the standout defender over the final week of regular season competition. Urquhart helped anchor Jacksonville in a pair of shutouts to end the year, with a 2-0 win over West Georgia and a 0-0 draw with Queens.

In 59 minutes of play against the Wolves, Urquhart notched two shots. She led all JU defenders in chances taken at the goal and matched the total shot output from West Georgia. In Charlotte, N.C., Urquhart took another pair of shots including a shot on goal. Her numbers were part of a 20-shot effort, and 10 shot on goal outing, for the ‘Phins.

The pair of shutouts also represented the fourth and fifth shutouts of the conference slate for JU, and the complete sweeps of both UWG and Queens. Jacksonville didn’t allow a goal in two contests to both programs.

Overall, JU finished the regular season with seven shutouts.

While her prowess is as a shutdown defender, Urquhart has been coming along in the offensive category as of late. In JU’s 3-3 stalemate with UNF, Urquhart notched her first career goal. Dating back to the UNF game, Urquhart has launched five combined shots whereas she had just three total shots prior.

Urquhart’s honor is the fifth such honor this season for the Dolphins. She joins Paula Herranz, Layla Garcia-Moreno, Alicia Rey Perez and Manuela Restrepo as conference honorees this season.

By nature of the team’s 9-4-4 record and 6-1-3 record in ASUN play, Jacksonville clinched the #2 seed in the Graphite Division. That seeding put JU in the Lipscomb side of the bracket, where the team will face the Gold Division’s #3 seeded North Alabama in Nashville.

The Dolphins and the Lions (8-5-5, 4-3-3) will square off on Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. EST in the ASUN Quarterfinals. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
