“We are happy to report both were transported to St. Lucie Medical Center as a precaution and are in good health,” police said in a statement
Police in Florida rescued two elderly people after their vehicle went into a pond.
The Port St. Lucie Police Department said in a social media post that officers responded to a single-vehicle crash near E. Caribbean & Cam De Entrada in the early morning hours of Wednesday, April 8.
There, they found a vehicle with the two people partially submerged in a pond.
“Our officers immediately entered the water, safely rescuing both individuals and bringing them to shore for medical evaluation,” said the department.
The rescue operation was captured in bodycam footage later shared by police on social media. In the video, an officer can be heard asking a colleague if they needed a glass breaker, to which they replied, “No, we’re good.”
The clip later showed police escorting the car’s occupants from the pond to shore.
One of the responders could be heard asking one of the rescued persons what happened, to which they replied in a distressed tone, “Oh, man.”
According to investigators, the driver said she turned too early and as she tried to return to the roadway, the car went down an embankment and ended up in the water, CBS affiliate WPEC reported.

“We are happy to report both were transported to St. Lucie Medical Center as a precaution and are in good health,” the police said.
The department concluded, “We want to remind the community to always drive carefully but even more so in this heavy rain!”
