Thomasville man accused of 2023 Tallahassee bank robbery pleads guilty to gun charges in Georgia

  • April 10, 2026

ALBANY, Ga. (WCTV) – A Thomasville man arrested for a Tallahassee bank robbery in 2023 who fled police and was captured in Georgia pleaded guilty to firearm charges Thursday, according to a U.S. Attorney’s Office Middle District of Georgia press release.

Jonathan Lamar Wooten, 53, also known as “Chico,” entered a guilty plea to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Wooten is facing 15 years in prison, followed by three years of supervised release and a $250,000 fine, per the release.

Wooten was arrested in connection with a shooting at Envision Credit Union on North Monroe Street in May 2023. He is facing charges in Florida, including attempted murder, aggravated battery and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Wooten and two others were arrested after a police chase involving a pick-up truck seen leaving the bank, according to previous reporting.

He allegedly shot the two other arrestees during the robbery after they arrived at the bank together to take out money to buy drugs, per previous reporting. The two victims were later released because they weren’t involved in the shooting, according to the Tallahassee Police Department.

Court records show Thomas County deputies spotted Wooten’s truck and tried to pull him over. Wooten jumped out of the truck with a gun in his hand and ran. He dropped the Glock behind a building on North Boulevard in Thomasville.

The deputies reportedly apprehended Wooten within minutes as he was sitting behind the same building, per the release.

“The Glock was compared to and matched the shell casings collected at the Tallahassee bank shooting,” the release said.

Wooten also has prior convictions out of Thomas County for rape and kidnapping.
