GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) – Currently, the news is out about Denzel Aberdeen leaving Kentucky and returning to Florida. And while this is a game-changer, this is only the beginning of Aberdeen playing in the 2026-27 season.
Because he is out of eligibility and has to file an NCAA waiver to be approved for his 5th year.
First, the good news. This is a verbal commitment; the Gators and Aberdeen have championship history. As the backup point guard playing his role for the 2024-25 team, leading to Florida’s third national title. Also, he is a veteran coming off a career year who knows Golden’s system and would play along with Boogie Fland.
However, this is not official yet, and he has to prove that he should have the right to play a fifth year with Florida and finish his career as a Gator.
The fortunes favor Aberdeen. He only played 40 minutes as a freshman in 12 games. Per sources, Aberdeen is enrolling at UF for the summer and graduating in August. If approved, he is back in orange and blue officially.
But once we get through the red tape. Then you can happily welcome him back to the O’Connell Center in November.
