JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Dolphins fell to the Utah Utes Saturday afternoon, 9-8, in a back-and-forth game at Rock Stadium. The Dolphins (6-5, 2-1 ASUN) were led by graduate student goalie Ryan Della Rocco who finished with a season-high 18 saves.Â
Sophomore Daylin John-Hill led the offense with one goal and three assists on the day.
It was all Dolphins in the first quarter. Senior Tate Jones dodged to the middle, with his shot creeping past the goalie for the opener. John-Hill took it himself for the second JU tally, then senior Nicky Brown buried a pass from fellow senior Jack Taylor.
Junior midfielder William Krupsky powered a shot in the back of the net to cap off a 4-0 first quarter for JU.
The Utes responded with four goals of their own in the second quarter, but a notch from freshman Zane Czeschin kept Jacksonville in front, 5-4, at the halftime break.
Taylor opened the second-half scoring, firing a step-down hammer off a feed from John-Hill. After another Utah goal, graduate student Charlie DiGennaro buried a long-range effort on a breakaway to put JU up two with a quarter to play.
The Utes scored four goals in the fourth to take a two-goal lead into the final minutes of the game. Krupsky scored his second with seven seconds to play, but the Dolphins couldn’t get a clean shot off the final seconds of the game.
Game Notes
Della Rocco has made double-digit saves five times this season.

Czeschin has scored in every game this season.
Head Coach John Galloway
“Obviously a very disappointing loss today, but I’m proud of our guys. There were plenty of opportunities we wanted back, but ultimately we came up short and we have to live with that and let that fuel our next step forward.Â
I am proud of our defensive effort to hold a team that has been scoring over 20 goals to under 10. That group, led by Ryan Della Rocco, will continue to fight for more time together. This group has never backed down for the challenge, and I know we won’t when Monday rolls around.”
