The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop in Ruskin, leading to the seizure of fentanyl and meth. Now a man is facing multiple charges.
RUSKIN, Fla. — A traffic stop in Ruskin turned into a major drug bust after a man was pulled over by deputies.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said that around 7:15 p.m. Friday, deputies were conducting a traffic stop along U.S. Highway 41 in Ruskin.
Deputies said that when they were trying to stop a car, the driver, Deontay Voss, 35, kept driving for nearly a mile before pulling over on a driveway in Ribbon Grass Loop.
When deputies began searching inside the vehicle, they say they seized roughly 26 ounces of fentanyl, over 58 grams of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
“Thanks to the proactive work of our deputies, these dangerous drugs were taken off the streets before they could do harm,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a statement. “Those who choose to profit from this poison will be held accountable. We remain committed to protecting our community and stopping the flow of illegal drugs.”
Voss was taken into custody and is now facing multiple charges, deputies added. According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office records, he is now facing drug trafficking charges, fleeing and attempting to elude police and possession of drug paraphernalia, among others.
Jail records show that Voss was on probation and was taken to the Falkenburg Road Jail. No bond was issued in his case.
