TAMPA, Fla. (WWSB) – Imagine what an airport’s lost and found area must look like. People do weird things.
Tampa International Airport’s forgotten finds are now being featured in a National Geographic reality series. The production team spent nearly a year at airports across America, including Tampa International, documenting the surprise and odd assortment of misplaced items.
The series also follows the dedicated employees who work every day to reunite those items with their owners.
Diamond rings. Designer shoes. Prosthetic body parts. An urn of ashes.
There’s quite a variety. Some items are priceless, like a toddler’s favorite stuffed animal.
The 10-episode series is now available on the National Geographic channel. You can also find the whole series on Hulu.
Tampa figures throughout many episodes, not just one. The documentary includes a story about a chihuahua that was left at the airport and lived on the runway for a week.
The airport staff kept trying to catch it. The dog kept going into a wooded area, so they couldn’t get it.
Finally, after a week, they got the chihuahua out. The dog was very happy to be rescued, according to the documentary.
The incident appears to have happened when the dog got out of its carrier during travel.
