TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Leon County commissioners are set to consider a proposed charter amendment Tuesday that aims to address “historical wrongs.”
The amendment, which previously stalled in the Leon County Charter Review Committee, was revived in March and is now back before the commission for consideration.
The proposal is similar in concept to reparations-style measures, calling for the county to study past injustices and allocate funding toward corrective initiatives.

However, commissioners face a challenge as they weigh the effort against recently enacted state legislation restricting diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives.
If approved by the commission, the amendment would be placed on the ballot for voters to decide in November.
