TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Florida A&M University students are weighing in on the latest penalties levied against the Rattler football team last week.
On Friday, the university announced it received Level Two APR penalties from the NCAA. On top of a postseason ban, the team will incur certain practice restrictions.
The university says its multi-year APR score fell below the NCAA’s minimum standards. They say they knew the data was trending toward this outcome and hoped a waiver from last season would provide relief. But the conditions of that waiver were not met.
Now, students on campus are reacting, hoping for some sort of fix, and others are still looking forward to regular-season games.
“When the opportunity does arise next time for me to go to a game, I definitely will be there to support, and things of that nature,” freshman Sebyn Coleman said.
“Maybe give them a little time to like get it together and maybe make a solution or compromise. But to completely ban it is kind og unfair, I was kind of looking forward to going to the football games,” freshman Salandra Singleton said.
FAMU says fixes are already underway to fix their scores. Their first game is August 29 against Albany State.
