Controlled burns underway near Jacksonville to reduce wildfire risk | Local

JACKSONVILLE, Ore. – Lomakatsi has received clearance from Oregon Department of Forestry to conduct controlled pile burning on private land in the W. Griffin Creek Road area southeast of Jacksonville.

According to Lomakatsi, operations may continue in the area as conditions allow. The burns are part of the Jacksonville Community Wildfire Protection Project.

The project is a collaboration to help reduce the threat of wildfire within and next to specific areas of Jacksonville. Partners include Lomakatsi Restoration Project, City of Jacksonville, Jacksonville Woodlands Association, Jacksonville Fire Department, local FireWise communities and members of Rogue Forest Partners.

This effort is part of the West Bear All-Lands Restoration Project. The project aims to reduce the risk of severe wildfire for communities and ecosystems in the wildland urban interface west of Bear Creek and the I-5 corridor, from Talent to Jacksonville.
