Local law enforcement raise money for Special Olympics with annual Torch Run

  • April 15, 2026

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Hundreds of local law enforcement officers from several agencies took part in the annual Torch Run on Tuesday, raising money for the Special Olympics.

The group ran with the torch from Lake Ella to Cascades Park, welcomed by Special Olympics athletes before a ceremony.

“It means a lot to have them all come in with the torch,” Joshua Godfrey said. He participates in soccer, basketball, bowling, golf, and pickleball.

“I’m looking forward to being able to travel to the state games and being able to compete against other athletes, and being able to see a fantastic opening ceremony,” Godfrey said. “It’s really nice that they support the Special Olympics.”

The Torch Run is a statewide effort, involving more than 5,000 officers from about 300 hundred agencies, according to the Special Olympics. The run simulates a relay, traveling through all 67 counties in Florida.
