CAPE CORAL, Fla. —
Residents in Cape Coral are surprised by overlapping road work signs along Embers Parkway, which the city said are temporary due to two separate contractors working in the area.
Joshua Hylton, a resident, noticed the odd signs in early September and has been trying to figure out why they are overlapping.
“Every single road that comes off of Embers Parkway. Between that stretch, there are two and there’s 15 roads. There’s 30 signs in total in a one-mile stretch,” Hylton said.
Jaedon Parker, who lives on one of the roads with overlapping signs, only noticed the issue on Monday.
“I think it could be a mistake if you had one too many, but then again, maybe just more caution for other people,” Parker said.
The city of Cape Coral explained that they hired two separate contractors to perform work in the area. One contractor completed their project, while the second one just started.
Each contractor is responsible for placing and removing their own signage. The second contractor cannot assume that the first contractor’s signs will remain in place, and the first contractor is in the process of removing theirs.
“Road work is happening on embers. I mean, it is close to the end, but it is happening,” Hylton said.
The city emphasized that the duplicate signs are only temporary and assured that they are paying any additional cost for these signs.
On Monday, the city said it reached out to the primary contractor, who instructed the subcontractor to remove the signs.
