JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man wanted on a murder charge in Jamaica dragged a Florida Highway Patrol trooper with his car when he tried to flee a traffic stop in Jacksonville on March 31, authorities said.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and FHP said they conducted a targeted vehicle stop that led to the arrest of Ragar Mandela Allen, whom ICE identified as a Jamaican national and a member of the Craig Town gang. ICE said Allen was wanted in Jamaica on a murder charge.
Authorities said Allen attempted to drive away during the stop and, in the process, dragged the trooper by the vehicle into a fence. The trooper was taken to a local hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries, officials said.
Allen was arrested at the scene and ICE described the incident as part of a broader increase in vehicle attacks against law enforcement, saying its officers have seen a 3,300 percent rise in such attacks.
