A landmarked Florida home built for a Civil War veteran has hit the market for $3.2 million.
Located in St. Augustine, Florida, the home is “an incredible blend of the Queen Anne Victorian architecture and Moorish revival courtyard arches,” according to Elizabeth Jennings of ONE Sotheby’s International Realty. She and her colleague, Kate Mitchell, listed the property Friday.
“There is nothing else like it,” Jennings added.
Built in 1893, it was originally a winter home for John J. Upham, a veteran of the Civil War—in which he fought for the North—and Plains Indian War, according to the listing. He served from 1859 to 1892, fighting in the Battle of Gettysburg in 1863. He died in 1898 at age 61, according to University of Chicago records.

The 5,800-square-foot residence is in a prime location “on the most famous street in historic St. Augustine, the nation’s oldest city,” according to Mitchell. Shops, restaurants and city landmarks are all within walking distance of the home.
The home last traded in 2023 for just over $1 million, according to records with PropertyShark. The current owner, who was not available for comment, fully restored the property, according to the listing.
The residence’s blue-and-white facade features ornate timbering and a wraparound porch, while the interiors offer period details such as millwork and hardwood floors.
Indeed, the entryway and the formal dining room are marked by wood walls, ceilings and floors, and there are wood doorframes throughout the home. The main living area has an octagonal shape, “showcasing original ornate 1800s millwork,” Mitchell noted. That includes the fireplace mantel, listing photos show.
The trim kitchen has seafoam green cabinetry, a triangular island with a breakfast bar and access to both the dining room and the backyard.
There are five bedrooms in the main house, plus a two-bedroom unit with a separate entrance. The primary bathroom offers a soaking tub and separate shower, as well as plenty of storage. The second level also has a library with built-in book shelves and a balcony, currently set up with a hammock, listing photos show.
Outside, there are lounging and dining areas surrounded by mature landscaping. That includes tall trees, flowers and a small bridge surrounded by palm fronds and other plantings.
