Three teenagers were detained, and one of them was arrested after gunfire was reported in a Cape Coral neighborhood on April 3. Officers with the Cape Coral Police Department responded around 9:49 p.m. to the area of Northeast 15th Lane and Northeast 8th Place after receiving reports of gunshots.A witness told police she was on her back patio when she heard an argument and saw several people gathered in an empty lot near the roadway. She reported seeing one person fire a gun multiple times before those involved ran away in different directions.When officers arrived, they located five spent 9mm shell casings in an empty lot at NE 8th Place, along with impact marks in the dirt nearby.A nearby resident reported seeing a man dressed in black and a woman wearing a brown jacket running southbound. Officers, including a K-9 unit, tracked the suspects’ path from the intersection toward nearby homes. Surveillance footage from a residence along NE 15th Lane showed individuals running through a yard toward the rear of another home.Police located, detained and questioned two juveniles at a residence on NE 8th Place before finding Xavier Derisma, 18.According to investigators Derisma was found carrying a black Smith & Wesson M&P 9mm handgun wrapped in a plastic bag in his waistband.After being advised of his rights, Derisma told detectives he fired three rounds into the ground during an argument, claiming he was trying to protect his girlfriend after another juvenile attempted to hit her. He also stated the firearm belonged to him and acknowledged he was not allowed to possess a weapon because he is on juvenile probation.Authorities confirmed Derisma is currently under probation with a condition requiring him to observe a 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew. Derisma was arrested and charged with discharging a firearm in public, improper exhibition of a firearm, and violation of probation. He was transported to the Lee County Jail.No injuries were reported.Derisma was arrested last year by Cape Coral police in April after reportedly getting into an argument with a group of people outside a movie theater over a comment made about his girlfriend.
