HOUSTON, Texas – A busy opening round saw five teams pick up victories to move on to the quarterfinals of the American Conference Women’s Tennis Championship Thursday at the George R. Brown Tennis Center.
South Florida recorded the lone upset of the day as the 12-seeded Bulls defeated No. 5 Florida Atlantic 4-2. UAB and Tulsa both won in sweeping fashion, while Tulane (4-1) and North Texas (4-1) also secured wins.

UAB 4, Temple 0 (Box Score)

UAB opened the American Championship in dominant fashion, not dropping a match in a 4-0 sweep of Florida Atlantic in the opening round.
The Blazers secured the doubles point with authority, as the duo of Klara Kajabova and Kristyna Damaskova sealed the advantage with a 6-2 victory on court one.
Carrying that momentum into singles play, Kajabova extended the lead to 2-0 with a commanding 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 2. Nera Tesankic followed with a decisive 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 3, putting UAB on the brink.
Antonia Ende closed out the match in style, cruising to a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 6 to clinch the 4-0 result.
With the victory, UAB advances to the quarterfinals, where it will face top-seeded Wichita State on Thursday.
Tulsa 4, East Carolina 0 (Box Score)

No. 4 seed Tulsa delivered a decisive performance Thursday morning, defeating No. 13 seed East Carolina 5-0 to advance to the quarterfinals of the American Championship.
After East Carolina struck first in doubles with a 6-1 win at No. 2, the Golden Hurricane responded with wins on the remaining courts to secure the point. Maria Santos and Isabella Basson evened things up with a 6-3 victory at No. 1, before Erin McKenzie and Caral Valle sealed the doubles point with a 6-2 win at No. 3.
Tulsa carried that momentum into singles, capturing three straight-set victories on courts one, three and four to clinch the match. Maria Santos led the charge with a dominant 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1, while Carolina Alonso added a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 3, and Alice Baba secured the clinching point with a 6-3, 6-2 decision at No. 4.
With the win, the Golden Hurricane move on to the quarterfinals, where they will play South Florida at 10 a.m. CT.
South Florida 4, Florida Atlantic 2 (Box Score)

The South Florida Bulls secured a 4-2 victory over the Florida Atlantic Owls on Thursday at the George R. Brown Tennis Center, advancing to the Quarterfinals in the 2026 American Conference Women’s Tennis Championship.
South Florida claimed the doubles point in a tightly contested start. After Florida Atlantic picked up a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles, the Bulls responded with back-to-back tiebreak victories. The duo of Amelie Drukerova and Josefine Falster evened the point with a 7-6 (2) win at No. 2 before Francesca Miglio and Melisa Senli clinched the doubles point with another 7-6 (5) decision at No. 3.
In singles play, Falster and Drukerova extended the South Florida lead to 3-0 with wins at No. 4 and No. 5 in straight set wins. Falter won 6-1, 6-4, while Drukerova won 6-1, 6-1. The Owls responded with straight set wins on courts three and one from Katrin Pavkova and Panna Bartha. Sienna Leeson would secure the win for the Bulls on court two, winning in straight sets 7-6 (6), 6-2.
The Bulls advance to play No. 4 Tulsa on Friday in the quarterfinals at 10 a.m. CT.
Tulane 4, UTSA 1 (Box Score)

The Tulane Green Wave overcame a doubles loss to defeat the UTSA Roadrunners, 4-1, on Thursday at the George R. Brown Tennis Center in the opening round of the 2026 American Conference Women’s Tennis Championship.
UTSA claimed the early advantage by securing the doubles point. The Roadrunners picked up wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, including a 7-6 (3) tiebreak victory on court three, to take a 1-0 lead despite Tulane’s 6-2 win from the No. 63 nationally ranked duo of Summer Chandler and Campbell Ricci at No. 1.
Tulane quickly shifted momentum in singles play, sweeping the first four completed matches in straight sets to clinch the team victory. Campbell Ricci evened the match with a commanding 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles, followed by Summer Chandler’s 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 2 to give the Green Wave the lead.
Leigh Van Zyl extended the advantage with a 7-6 (6), 6-1 win at No. 3, and Natalia Perez sealed the match with a 6-4, 6-2 decision at No. 4.
Tulane advances to the Quarterfinals where they will play No. 2 Charlotte at 2 p.m. CT.
North Texas, Memphis (Box Score)

The North Texas Mean Green used a strong showing in singles play to secure a 4-1 victory over the Memphis Tigers on Thursday at the George R. Brown Tennis Center in the 2026 American Conference Women’s Tennis Championship.
Memphis opened the match by taking the doubles point, earning wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to claim an early 1-0 lead. The Tigers captured a 6-3 victory on court three before sealing the point with a 6-4 win at the top position.
North Texas quickly responded in singles, winning four matches to clinch the team victory. Giulianna Ciangherot got the Mean Green on the board with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 6, followed by a dominant 6-2, 6-2 performance from Carolina Laydner at No. 1 to give North Texas the lead.
Lou Chalard extended the advantage with a 6-0, 7-6 (5) win at No. 2, and Pia Petelinsek sealed the match at No. 5 with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 comeback victory.
The Mean Green advance to face host and No. 3-seeded Rice in Friday’s quarterfinal round at 2 p.m. CT,.
