The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said the shooting started as a robbery.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man suffered life-threatening injuries after being shot at a Chevron gas station in Jacksonville early Thursday morning, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

JSO Sgt. Christopher Smith said officers responded to the gas station located at 3605 St. Johns Bluff Road S. around 5:30 a.m.

When they arrived, the man who Smith said was an employee of the gas station, was found shot in his neck. He is reportedly in his 40s, and was taken to a local hospital.

According to JSO, a man who was dressed in all black and had on a backpack and white shoes at the time of the shooting, entered the store and pointed a gun at the employee while making a demand.

After firing shots, JSO said the suspect ran out of the store in an unknown direction.

“At this time, this appears to be an isolated threat with no further threat to the community,” Smith said.

This shooting follows another that took place at a separate gas station just nine hours prior. In that incident, a man was shot and killed after an argument escalated at a Circle K.

Anyone with information on either shootings is asked to call JSO’s non-emergency number at 904-630-0500. To provide information anonymously, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
