A man was killed late Thursday night after being struck by a vehicle in Tampa, police said.
According to the Tampa Police Department, the crash occurred around 10:37 p.m. on April 16 on West Swann Avenue, just east of South Gomez Avenue.
Investigators say the man was seated in the westbound travel lanes in a dark, unlit section of the roadway for reasons that remain unclear.
A 25-year-old woman driving a white 2017 Volkswagen Passat was traveling westbound when she was unable to see the man in time to avoid hitting him, police said. The man died at the scene.
Police said the driver remained on scene and cooperated fully. Neither speed nor impairment is believed to be a factor. The victim has not yet been identified, and the investigation is ongoing.
