A City of Fort Lauderdale employee is accused of throwing vodka in a woman’s face in an unprovoked attack at a park, police said.
Adrienne Michelle James, 50, was arrested after the incident at Holiday Park on 1150 G. Harold Martin Drive, Fort Lauderdale Police officials said.
City officials said James is a part-time employee with Fort Lauderdale’s Parks and Recreation Department.
Police said they responded to a possible battery at the park around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. At the scene, a 72-year-old woman said she’d been involved in an argument that escalated, and the suspect threw a cup of vodka in her face and eyes, according to officials.
The woman was taken by Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue to Holy Cross Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
James was located and taken into custody, police said.
In a bond court hearing on Friday, a judge found probable cause for the charge of battery on a person 65 years of age or older.
James’ defense asked the court to consider standard pre-trial detention because she works for the city, lives with her daughter and would have difficulty meeting a monetary bond amount.
“I imagine the city may take some issue with this,” an arraignment prosecutor replied. “She works for the parks department, this was in a park. She’s attacking someone, a member of the community that’s frequenting the park. There’s an independent witness, there was no provocation for this.”
James’ bond was set at $2,500. She is prohibited from having contact with the victim and cannot have firearms, weapons or ammunition.
