GREENVILLE, N.C. – Gabby Fowler hit a walk-off solo home run as East Carolina defeated South Florida, 1-0, on Friday at Max R. Joyner Family Stadium.

Julia Apostolakos was dominant all day in the circle with a career-high seven strikeouts for the complete game win and Kanisha Anderson had another multi-hit game with two hits for the Pirates (26-21, 10-9 American).

South Florida (32-14, 14-5 American) had a chance to plate the game’s first run in the top of the third but Anderson rifled a ball hit in the outfield to Addison Lund to get the USF runner out at home.

Both Apostolakos and USF’s Anne Long went back-and-forth as hits, let alone runs were at a premium for both teams most of the game.

The Pirates had their best chance to get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth after Macey Ciamillo’s double with just one out but the next two Pirate batters were retired to send the game to the sixth inning.

After retiring three of South Florida’s four batters in the top of the seventh, Fowler took the fourth pitch of her at-bat and sent it over the center field wall to give ECU the series-opening victory.
