Sergeant Robert Hungerford with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said the suspect tended to the man “for a moment” after the crash, but then ran from the scene.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has launched an investigation after a 24-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run crash on Jacksonville’s Northside Tuesday morning.

According to JSO Sgt. Robert Hungerford, the crash occurred at approximately 5:54 a.m. at the intersection of Gold Star Family Parkway and Pecan Park Road.

Hungerford said the man was driving a Chevrolet S10 eastbound on Gold Star Family Parkway at the same time a Chevrolet Silverado was traveling westbound on the road.

Hungerford said the Silverado made a left turn onto Pecan Park Road, turning in front of the S10, and causing the crash.

According to Hungerford, the man was then taken to a local hospital where he died shortly after arriving.

After the collision, Hungerford said the driver of the Silverado got out of the vehicle and tended to the 24-year-old man “for a moment,” but then ran away from the scene. JSO’s K-9 and drone unit responded to the scene and searched the area “extensively,” but was unable to find the suspect, Hungerford said.

Hungerford said the suspect is described as a Hispanic male, who’s approximately 5-foot-6 tall with a medium build and short black hair. Hungerford also described the suspect as being in his late-20s/early-30s.

“We do have some leads and we expect to follow up on those today,” Hungerford said Tuesday. “We have a team of six detectives that have this as their primary duty for the foreseeable future.”

Hungerford said the intersection of Gold Star Family Parkway and Pecan Park Road was closed for several hours following the crash.
