The race for Cape Coral’s mayoral seat is intensifying as candidates call for leadership that listens to residents. Mayor John Gunter has filed for reelection, while challengers Richard Leon, a former council member, and Kara Rogers are campaigning for change. Leon emphasized the need for stronger communication and trust with residents, particularly regarding infrastructure and commercial growth in North Cape. Rogers highlighted reforming the city’s utilities extension plan, which she said has become a financial burden while progressing too slowly. Both candidates agreed that balancing Cape Coral’s growth with maintaining its small-town feel will be key to the city’s future, WINK News reports.
