The Reds rallied to take a ninth-inning lead on Sunday at Minnesota before claiming a 7-4 victory in 10 innings. TJ Friedl’s bases-clearing double in the top of the ninth gave Cincinnati a 4-3 lead before the Twins tied it in the bottom of the inning. Elly De La Cruz scored the go-ahead run in the top of the 10th as Minnesota committed two errors on the same play and Rece Hinds added insurance with a two-run double later in the inning.
Shane McClanahan had a rough outing on Sunday, surrendering four runs on eight hits in 4.1 innings as Tampa Bay lost the rubber game of its three-game series to the Pirates 6-3. Junior Caminero homered in the loss, and Hunter Feduccia lashed a two-run single in the fifth to give the Rays a short-lived 2-1 lead. Yandy Díaz went 0-for-4, snapping his eight-game hitting streak.
The Rays hadn’t announced a starting pitcher for Monday, while Cincinnati gives the ball to right-hander Rhett Lowder (2-1), who enters with a 3.52 ERA and 1.130 WHIP in 23 innings over his first four outings.
