JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – A construction project in downtown Jacksonville will begin today after a two-week delay.
The City of Jacksonville says initial construction on Court Street will get underway today.
This comes after the city decided to push back the project after businesses along Court Street said they did not receive notice of the upcoming construction.
The city says the work will include removing the bricks in the roadway between College Street and Old Bridge Street and landscape beds. Crews will then install concrete that will be dyed red and stamped to look like brick.
Crews will also remove landscaping and a portion of the brick walkway between Old Bridge Street and New Bridge Street to create a two-way road.
City officials say the contractor plans to work on both sections of Court Street simultaneously.
Each section will be closed off to traffic, but Old Bridge Street, College Street and the pedestrian access will stay open.
WITN spoke to City Manager Joshua Ray earlier this month about the project, who said it will cost roughly $200,000 in taxpayer dollars, and construction would last about three to four months.
