TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Two people have been indicted on federal theft charges after being accused of a string of mail thefts in Tallahassee, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Christy Holgate, 49, and Kim Benson, 52 were both charged with one county of conspiracy to commit mail theft. Additionally, Holgate was charged with four counts of mail theft and Benson was charged with one count of mail theft.
Tallahassee Police arrested Kim Benson and Christy Holgate Friday, according to recent court records. The two face charges of misdemeanor mail theft and felony burglary, court documents revealed.(Leon County Jail)
Court records show police responded to the Fallschase neighborhood in December after neighbors said they saw Benson and Holgate trying to break into locked mailboxes.
Officers searched their vehicle and found a trash bag filled with mail and debit cards, according to court records.

If convicted, Holgate and Benson face a maximum of five years in prison for the conspiracy charge. Each count of mail theft also carries a maximum of five years.
An indictment is an allegation by a grand jury that a defendant has committed a crime and is not evidence of guilt.
Trial is scheduled for June, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
