Pilot escapes injury after plane crashes, lands on roof in Martin County’s Hungryland Preserve

  • April 20, 2026

A pilot is OK after a plane crashed late Saturday night in the Hungryland Preserve in Martin County, deputies said.

A picture posted on Facebook by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office showed the small plane on its roof.

An incident report from the Martin County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy responded to the area of Pratt Whitney Road and Indiantown Road for reports of a crash just after 9 p.m.

Shortly after the crash, the pilot, identified as Anders Brock-Utne, 19, of Dallas, Texas, confirmed the single-engine fixed-wing Piper Aircraft he was piloting had crashed in the preserve but indicated that he was not hurt.

He said the plane experienced a loss of power in the engine, and he decided to attempt to land in the preserve due to low elevation.

Brock-Utne was the only person on the aircraft, which was scheduled to fly from Melbourne to Delray Beach.

The sheriff’s office said the appropriate aviation authorities were notified.

Brock-Utne was assessed by Palm Beach County Fire Rescue and was not transported for injuries.
