1. Fuel spill causes lane closures on EB I-4 near Lakeland
It is expected that lane closures will remain in place until around 8 p.m. tonight or until further notice.
2. Soda and candy among items no longer eligible through SNAP
Items that no longer qualify under the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) include soda, energy drinks, candy, and ultra-processed prepared desserts.
3. Indian Rocks Beach cracks down on short-term rentals
The city of Indian Rocks Beach is bringing in record-setting revenue from owners and operators of short-term rentals through both registration fees and ordinance violations.
4. Senate committee set to consider Trump’s pick for Federal Reserve chair
With Jerome Powell’s tenure as Federal Reserve chair set to expire next month, the Senate Banking Committee will consider the nominee for his replacement Tuesday when it holds a confirmation hearing for Kevin Warsh.
5. Blue Origin’s New Glenn rocket fails to send satellite into correct orbit
Its mission was to send the AST SpaceMobile company’s BlueBird 7 satellite to low-Earth orbit. However, the Washington-state-based Blue Origin posted on X Sunday morning that “The payload was placed into an off-nominal orbit.”
6. Officials say 1 dead after plane crashes into Wesley Chapel subdivision
Pasco County officials say pilot Michael Bailey was killed after his plane crashed in the 25000 block of Aldus Drive in Wesley Chapel.

TAMPA TRAFFIC ALERT | Crews are replacing a section of sewer pipe beneath the roadway near 5119 N. 30th St. after a depression formed above the damaged pipe. Work is currently underway and will continue through Friday, April 24, 2026, weather permitting. The proposed work zone extends along N. 30th St. between E. McBerry St. and E. Frierson Ave., requiring temporary lane closures throughout the duration of the project. This work may impact traffic near Potter Elementary School and throughout the Jackson Heights community. Drivers should expect delays and are encouraged to use alternate routes when possible.
RAYS HOST REDS | The Tampa Bay Rays open a three-game series at home against the Cincinnati Reds. Tonight’s matchup is the first meeting between these teams this season. Tampa Bay has a 12-9 record overall and a 4-2 record in home games. incinnati has an 8-2 record on the road and a 14-8 record overall. First pitch is at 6:40 p.m.
MANATEE WATER SHUTOFF NOTICE | Manatee County Utilities Department is issuing a water shutoff notice for the residents in Pine Bay Forest in the 7503 – 7625 4th Avenue West block on Thursday, April 23. Crews will be replacing water valves. The water will be shut off from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. There will not be a need to boil water once the service is restored.
