SEMINOLE — A Pinellas County sheriff’s deputy suffered two skull fractures after a car struck him while he stood at the edge of a road in Seminole, authorities said.
Deputy Jason Anderson, 37, was on the shoulder of 104th Street near 106th Terrace about 9:45 p.m. April 2 responding to an unrelated call when Shaira Wester, 37, hit him with her 2010 Ford Fusion as she drove north, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.
Wester told investigators a southbound vehicle with its high beams on blinded her and she did not see Anderson at the roadside, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The impact threw Anderson to the ground. He was taken to a hospital in stable condition with two skull fractures, a fractured wrist and facial lacerations, authorities said. His injuries were not considered life-threatening.
Wester was not hurt. She stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Neither impairment nor speed appeared to be factors, and no charges have been filed, authorities said.
The Sheriff’s Office Major Accident Investigation Team is continuing to investigate.
