TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – This Thursday, it’s Crunch Time for WCTV’s PBJ PLZ! drive!
The big peanut butter push for donations comes as we try to break a record for the 10th anniversary of the drive to help hungry children this summer.
And this year, Crunch Time will include a familiar face behind the wheel of a forklift — WCTV’s very own Julie Montanaro!
She says operating a forklift is not as easy as it looks.
After taking a training course and getting forklift operator certification from OSHA, Julie received on-site training at the Second Harvest warehouse from Kenny Sharpe, a warehouse associate who operates a forklift every day.
“[Julie is] definitely good at maneuvering the forklift,” Sharpe said. “She picked that up really fast. I think she just needs to get better at operating the forks up and down, shifting right to left, things like that.”

Second Harvest forklift operators help to pick up peanut butter and jelly from Leon County Schools every year.
They weigh it in on massive scales just inside the warehouse doors, and after each jar is checked for safety to be sure it’s sealed and in date, they’ll stack it and load it once more as it heads out to hungry families who need it.
So as PBJ bins fill up at schools district-wide, a small fleet of skilled forklift operators is ready for an influx of peanut butter and jelly and a heaping helping of kindness.
