LEE COUNTY, Fla. (WINK)—The Lee County Sheriff’s Office used its newly installed grappler device to stop a suspect who attempted to evade deputies late Sunday.
In a Facebook post from the sheriff’s office, deputies said the suspect, Rosalio Garcia Carrillo, tried to stab a family member before he was stopped.
The new Grapplers are designed to latch onto rear tires. Once the Grappler deploys, it uses a net attached to the patrol car to snare and immobilize the suspect’s tire, ending a high-speed chase.
Deputies said they safely stopped Garcia Carrillo’s vehicle to get him into custody.
Leading up to his arrest, deputies responded to a domestic disturbance on Sandy Hollow Lane late Sunday. Upon arrival, deputies say the victim reported that Garcia Carrillo appeared intoxicated and began to act aggressively.
The victim further mentioned that Garcia Carrillo pulled a pocket knife and tried to stab a family member.
Deputies also learned that a friend had picked up Garcia Carrillo in a silver Toyota. Deputies found the vehicle about two miles away and tried to make a traffic stop.
They said that when that didn’t work, they used the grappler to pull the Toyota to a stop.
LEE COUNTY, Fla. (WINK)—The Lee County Sheriff’s Office is rolling out new Grappler devices and adding Chevy Tahoes to its fleet in an effort to stop suspects faster and make high-speed chases safer.
Rosalio Garcia Carrillo was taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
According to the sheriff’s office, Garcia Carrillo is in the United States illegally and is currently being held on an ICE detainer.
