TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Auburn transfer Ashton Daniels has been named Florida State’s starting quarterback. Tuesday’s announcement on social media answers the biggest question hanging over the program since the conclusion of spring practice. When the Seminoles wrapped up their practices last Wednesday, coach Mike Norvell said he was “not ready” to name either Daniels or redshirt freshman Kevin Sperry the No. 1 quarterback. Daniels spent his first three seasons at Stanford and played for Auburn in 2025. He has 4,783 passing yards and 1,397 rushing yards with 35 touchdowns in 37 career games.
STANFORD, Calif. (AP) — Dick Gould has been around Stanford sports long enough as a tennis player and coach — a remarkable run of seven decades — that he clearly remembers some down years for the university’s sports programs. He heard the excuses by coaches and student-athletes back in the day of “we just can’t win at Stanford, you can’t be smart and be an athlete.” That’s what makes the current streak of success on the national stage extra special for the retired, longtime tennis coach — Stanford just captured an NCAA championship for a 50th consecutive year.
UNDATED (AP) — Former Wisconsin guard John Blackwell is heading to Duke. Blackwell announced his commitment in an Instagram post. Blackwell was one of the most highly regarded players to enter the transfer portal after he teamed up with Nick Boyd this season to give Wisconsin one of the nation’s top backcourt tandems. Blackwell’s decision was part of a productive day of commitments for the Blue Devils and top rival North Carolina. The Tar Heels landed commitments from Utah guard Terrence Brown and guard Matt Able from fellow instate program N.C. State ahead of Michael Malone’s debut season leading the Tar Heels.
DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — A grandson of retired Duke basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski has been charged with misdemeanor driving while impaired in connection with a collision that killed a 15-year-old bicyclist. According to court records in Durham County, North Carolina, Joseph Savarino admitted to drinking before the incident Saturday night and a Breathalyzer test measured his blood-alcohol concentration at 0.11%. The legal limit is 0.08%. Police say Savarino’s vehicle struck the boy, who was riding his bike in northwest Durham. The 26-year-old Savarino made his first court appearance Monday, and a judge revoked his driver’s license before releasing him on a $100,000 secured bond.
UNDATED (AP) — Establishing team chemistry in college football is tougher than ever with so many players not staying at the same school for four years. But it’s still doable. Succeeding in the transfer portal era requires altering offseason objectives. Players aren’t just getting to know the playbook. They’re getting to know one another. New Mexico provides a model example on how teams can build chemistry even after roster overhauls. The Lobos had 75 newcomers last year and still went 9-4 for their first winning season since 2016.
UNDATED (AP) — Nebraska’s baseball team is putting together one of its best regular seasons in years. The Cornhuskers outscored a then-top 10 Southern California 36-15 with two run-rule victories in a three-game weekend sweep in Lincoln and have put themselves in strong position to host an NCAA regional for the first time since 2008. The sweep was Nebraska’s first against a ranked opponent since 2015. The Huskers already have matched their 2025 Big Ten win total of 15 with 12 conference games left. They are alone in second place behind UCLA and are No. 20 in the D1Baseball.com and Baseball America rankings.
