TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Griffin Heights residents hosted a discussion Monday evening about the need for a family resource center with the Children’s Services Council.
Leon County Commissioner Carolyn Cummings said after multiple meetings with the community, she feels good about the likelihood of a resource center coming to the neighborhood.
“From the outset, the Children’s Services Council allocated $4 million for family resource centers in our county, and they need to know that all the money has not been expended. So, there was some concerns about whether the community would have to pay for it, churches would have to pay for it, but the money has been allocated,” she said.

A recent assessment found that Griffin Heights is a neighborhood in Leon County in need of support and services for families and children.
“I believe that community is ready – has always been ready. But what we are trying to do with the series of meetings is to make the residents understand, get them in the mindset that a family resource center can expand, can be anything they want it to be, depending on the needs in the community,” she said.
