Jacksonville Police arrested a man accused of kidnapping a baby from a residence.

According to Jacksonville PD, officers responded to a welfare concern on Myrtle Drive on Wednesday at 1:01 p.m. During the investigation, officers determined Brian Damon Black, 42, unlawfully entered a residence and took a one-year-old child before fleeing the scene.

A caller told police Black carried the child into a nearby wooded area. Officers immediately began searching the area. At 2:52 p.m., the child was found unharmed and safely reunited with the mother. Officers continued searching for Black, and subsequently located him in a wooded area in the 1000 lock of Skyline.

Upon contact, Black reportedly attempted to flee from police, but was apprehended after a brief chase.

Black is charged with burglary of a habitation, kidnapping, evading arrest and detention. An investigation remains ongoing.
