The Jacksonville Police Department responded to a welfare check on Wednesday at around 1 p.m. in the 800 block of Myrtle Drive. There, they discovered that a man had entered a residence and took a 1-year-old child before leaving.

The man was later identified as 42-year-old Brian Damon Black of Jacksonville.

The initial caller was concerned that Black was seen walking into a nearby wooded area with a child. Officers began searching the area and at around 2:52 p.m., the child was located unharmed and reunited with the mother.

Black was then found in the 1000 block of Skyline in a wooded area. When police approached Black, he reportedly fled but was arrested after a brief pursuit.

Black has since been charged with burglary of a habitation, kidnapping and evading arrest or detention.
