TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The No. 5/8 Florida softball team (43-7) fell to No. 10/13 Florida State (40-7), 3-1, on Wednesday evening at JoAnne Graf Field.
Taylor Shumaker gave the Gators the early lead with a solo blast to right field in the top of the first. It was her 4th leadoff home run and 15th total of the year.
Jocelyn Erickson had Florida’s sole multi-hit outing, going 2-for-4 with a pair of singles, her 21st multi-hit game of the season.
Despite tallying seven hits, the Florida offense was unable to record timely hits, leaving eight on base, including six in scoring position.
Florida State scored two of its three home runs off solo home runs, one to lead off the bottom of the first and the second to lead off the bottom of the third.
The Seminoles added insurance with an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth inning to pull ahead, 3-1.
Keagan Rothrock (23-5) suffered just her fifth loss of the season, tossing 3.1 innings, allowing three runs on three hits with three walks.
Olivia Miller pitched the remaining 2.2 innings, allowing just two hits with a pair of strikeouts, one walk and one hit by pitch.
