BOSTON —

Health officials in Boston said a person with measles passed through Logan Airport last week.

Officials said that the person traveled on JetBlue Airways flight 470 from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to Boston, and then drove to Rhode Island in a private vehicle. The flight left Florida at 8:54 p.m. on April 13 and arrived shortly after midnight on April 14.

Anyone who spent time in Terminal C at Logan Airport between midnight and 2:30 a.m. on April 14 might have been exposed.

If you are not vaccinated for measles and you might have been exposed, officials said you should contact your doctor immediately and monitor for symptoms. According to health officials, unvaccinated people who might have been exposed need to avoid public spaces and monitor symptoms for 21 days after exposure, which is May 5.

Measles is passed from person to person through the air when someone with the infection sneezes, coughs or talks. The virus can remain infectious in the air for up to two hours after an infected person leaves the area. Measles can cause serious health complications, especially in children younger than 5 years old.

Symptoms of measles include high fever, cough, runny nose and watery eyes several days before developing a body rash. To prevent the possibility of spreading the virus, health officials said anyone who develops such symptoms should call their health care provider before going directly to a health care facility.
