VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — A bizarre scene unfolded on a Florida highway on Wednesday as a white pickup truck missing a wheel rammed multiple vehicles in a series of hit-and-run crashes.

According to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to multiple reports of hit-and-run crashes involving a reckless driver on I-4. Deputies say witnesses reported that the suspect vehicle, a white pickup truck, crashed into a guardrail, lost a front wheel, and continued driving before exiting I-4 and getting stuck at a construction site off Shell Road in DeBary.

In a video shared by VSO, a 911 caller is heard saying, “I just need to report that there’s a pickup truck with three wheels that rammed a bunch of people, caused a huge accident on I-4 just a few moments ago, and somehow continued to drive with no wheel.”

The video shows the white pickup truck with three wheels leaning to one side as it drives on I-4. Body camera footage then shows the truck stuck at the construction site as law enforcement approaches the vehicle.

VSO deputies say they detained the driver, identified as Eric Drewry, 47, who appeared to be under the influence. Deputies say that while being questioned by law enforcement, he attempted to kick one of the officers.

In the body cam video, deputies are heard telling Drewry to stand by the car, as he responds, “For what?” The sheriff’s office says that while Drewry was being taken to the hospital, he asked law enforcement multiple times to be released in exchange for $2,000.
