A Broward sheriff’s sergeant who has been on administrative leave since he was arrested in January on domestic violence charges was arrested again this week, this time accused of escalating the violence against the same victim.

According to an arrest report, Scott Nida, 55, accused the woman of infidelity Monday morning as she was driving him to his Pompano Beach residence. Nida “forcibly grabbed the back of her head and began to punch her face and head multiple times.” He grabbed the steering wheel in an attempt to prevent her from pulling over and escaping, according to the report, but the woman managed to stop the car and run away for help, her face bleeding from the physical force.

She stopped a bystander near Southeast 19th Terrace in Pompano Beach.

Nida allegedly drove away in the woman’s car. He has been charged with false imprisonment of a person, robbery without a firearm or weapon, domestic violence battery and grand theft auto.

The South Florida Sun Sentinel is not identifying the woman because she is an alleged victim of domestic violence.

Nida had already been arrested in January on domestic violence charges involving the same reported victim. He was accused then of false imprisonment, one count of domestic battery by strangulation and one count of touch or strike battery.

Those charges were dropped when the victim declined to cooperate. The reported victim said this week that she waived prosecution in the January case and lifted the no-contact order that was in place. She “felt coerced into dropping the charges in that case, since [Nida] told her he would lose his job and pension,” according to this week’s arrest report.

Nida, who was hired by the Broward Sheriff’s Office in 2005, remains on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of BSO investigations and the new case. He remained in jail as of late Wednesday.
