Signature conference convenes nonprofit, philanthropic, and corporate leaders for a day of collaboration, learning, and action

As nonprofits navigate rising demand, constrained resources, and increasingly complex community challenges, the reality is clear: this work cannot be carried out alone. The moment calls for shared responsibility, bold leadership, and deeper investment in the people who power the sector.

On Thursday, May 7, 2026, PhilanthropyMiami will convene more than 400 nonprofit professionals, funders, corporate partners, and community leaders for its signature conference, IGNITE! 2026: The Power of Us, at Miami Dade College’s Wolfson Campus. Recognized as one of South Florida’s premier convenings for the social impact sector, IGNITE! provides a dynamic forum for leaders to exchange ideas, forge strategic partnerships, and explore forward-thinking approaches to leadership, fundraising, and nonprofit sustainability.

Participants will leave with actionable insights and meaningful connections to strengthen organizations, support the workforce behind them, and amplify collective impact across the region. This year’s theme, “The Power of Us,” goes beyond collaboration it reflects a fundamental truth about this moment in the sector: progress depends on collective action and human leadership at every level. It calls for recognizing that the strength of our communities is directly tied to the people doing the work, often behind the scenes, who lead, commit, and show resilience every day to move missions forward.

The conference will feature a keynote address by Dr. Akilah Watkins, President and CEO of Independent Sector, the national membership organization that connects, strengthens, and advocates for nonprofits and philanthropies. Dr. Watkins will provide a national perspective on the evolving role of nonprofits and philanthropy in advancing community change.

“IGNITE! has always been about bringing leaders together to strengthen our community,” said Fernanda Jorgensen, Executive Director of PhilanthropyMiami. “But this moment requires more. It requires shared responsibility, deeper connection, and recognition that people are at the heart of everything we do. The Power of Us reflects that reality and calls for action.”

IGNITE! 2026 will introduce expanded programming to deepen engagement and accelerate impact, including:

The Game Changer Awards honor professionals across the nonprofit and philanthropic community whose work strengthens the entire ecosystem. These are individuals who may not always be in the spotlight, yet their contributions are essential to advancing impact. Notably, one of this year’s finalists has dedicated more than 20 years to their organization, demonstrating the long-term commitment that sustains the sector.
Board Leadership Lab focused on strengthening board effectiveness and engagement.
Flash Coaching Sessions offer one-on-one guidance from experienced sector leaders
Morning Fireside Chat, moderated by Symeria Hudson, President & CEO, United Way Miami.
and featuring leaders from the Florida Nonprofit Alliance and the Florida Philanthropic Network

Attendees will participate in interactive workshops, panel discussions, and curated networking opportunities centered on three core pillars:
GROW – strengthening leadership and organizational capacity
CONNECT -building strategic partnerships and expanding networks
LEAD – inspiring action and fostering innovation

Together, these pillars provide the tools, insights, and relationships to drive meaningful, lasting impact across South Florida.
