TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Jury selection began Friday morning for the trial of three men charged in connection to the shooting of a Tallahassee police officer in 2023.
John’Darious Wright is accused of shooting Tallahassee Police Department officer Caleb Babb while running from a home invasion scene on Sandpiper Court in September 2023, according to TPD.
As a result, Officer Babb suffered massive blood loss but survived.
Rahyim Sanders and Tyrell Guinnie were also allegedly part of the home invasion.
Detectives indicated that Wright also shot another man during a different home invasion that same night on Cypress Point Road.
The suspects’ charges include multiple counts of attempted murder and home invasion.

After the shooting occurred in 2023, Officer Babb received the Purple Heart award, an award the city said is the highest honor given to a TPD member who “is significantly injured or killed in the line of duty.” At that time, Babb was the fourth recipient of the award and the first to receive it while still living, city officials said.
