Illinois State Police and Jacksonville and Morgan County law enforcement officials at mid-morning Friday remained at the scene of a barricaded subject believed to be armed, but alone, in a house in the 700 block of Park Street in Jacksonville. 

Police first arrived about 6 a.m. and began trying to establish communications. This is not a hostage situation, according to state police.

Nearby Jacksonville Middle School is closed for the day and Illinois College has canceled outdoor activities. The public is not at risk at this time, according to authorities.
