The Arizona Cardinals ended the suspense by selecting the Hurricanes’ quarterback in the third round at No. 65 overall on April 24.

Among the most debated questions of the NFL Draft: Where will Miami quarterback and former Mandarin High School standout Carson Beck wind up?

The Arizona Cardinals ended the suspense by selecting the Hurricanes’ quarterback in the third round at No. 65 overall on April 24.

The selection makes him the third quarterback off the board, one of the highest-drafted players at the position in Northeast Florida history.

He’s bringing a quality resume to the NFL. Beck won two national championships at Georgia, albeit as a backup behind Stetson Bennett IV, and following his transfer started for Miami in the College Football Playoff final against Indiana.

At Mandarin, he helped turn around the Mustangs from 2-8 to their first-ever Florida High School Athletic Association championship for Class 8A in 2018, winning the Florida Dairy Farmers Mr. Football award.

Northeast Florida’s highest-drafted quarterback all-time remains former Bolles School standout Mac Jones, selected No. 15 overall in the first round out of Alabama by the New England Patriots in 2021. Tim Tebow, who won a state title at Nease and earned the Heisman Trophy during a double-championship college career at Florida, went to the Denver Broncos at No. 25 in 2010.

The Carson Beck draft profile

Scouting opinions had varied widely on Beck, who spent five years (2020-24) at Georgia and one (2025) at Miami entering the draft. At one time, while he was still at Georgia, Beck was often projected as a future first-rounder.

His track record as a consistent winner has impressed analysts, and at 6-4, he has plenty of size for an NFL QB.

But his arm injury while at Georgia, which required surgery, and his interception count (24 over the last two years) have raised concerns.

The Cardinals centered on offense with their first three picks, selecting running back Jeremiyah Love of Notre Dame with the No. 3 overall pick, while selecting offensive guard Chase Bisontis of Ohio State with the second pick of the second round, No. 34 overall.
