BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – UAB Softball lost its seventh series opener of the season, being shut out for the second game in a row. UAB’s offense wasn’t able to generate momentum, only recording three hits and a pair of walks. 

South Florida took the lead in the third inning with a home run to deep right field, scoring a pair of runs. The Bulls extended their lead in the fifth with a two-run double to right-center field. South Florida scored its final run on a wild pitch.

Caitlin Russell was charged with the loss for UAB. Russell threw 4.2 innings, allowing eight hits and five earned runs. Caroline McLendon relieved Russell, throwing 2.1 hitless innings, walking just one batter.

Bennett earned her 31st walk of the season, tying her with Martina Landrum (2010) and Andrea Rogers (2006) for the sixth most walks in a UAB season.
UAB was shut out in back-to-back games for the second time this season.
