TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV/Florida Capital Bureau) – A new climate ban in Florida may impact local environments and economies.
Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a law that will prohibit state and local governments from adopting net-zero greenhouse gas emission policies, meaning a preference for renewable energy cannot be mandated by local governments.
The governor said that policies like carbon taxes increase the cost of living across the state for businesses and consumers.
“Gas has gone up. Do we want it to go up even more, or do we want it to go down? You have these radical policies, your energy costs do go up a result of doing that,” DeSantis said.

However, climate experts like Brian Lee with ReThink Energy Florida say this bill will harm Florida’s environment and not reduce utility costs.
”I feel like the energy security issue that is being brought up by one side is not a realistic appraisal of the situation, while we are seeing gasoline prices rise to four dollars, five dollars a gallon,” Lee said,
ReThink Energy Florida predicts that Florida’s sea level is on track to increase another foot by 2050.
